BBC World Service Trust NigeriaVacancy for (Assistant Producer)

The BBC World Service Trust is looking for a suitably qualified candidate to fill the vacant position of Assistant Producer/ Archivist in the Production Department.Reporting to the Producer, the successful candidate will:

• Assist the producer in the delivery of assigned outputs on time and within budget

• Coordinate and conduct research on themes and messages and ensure all content informationare accurate and ensure content is tackled in programmes in line with behaviour change strategies and are clear and ambiguous across languages

• Analyze information, date/materials for research document and work as a research points-person during workshops and assist in script development

• To research, write, translate, edit or adapt stories or programme material; to find contributors and interviewees as well as other sources of material and/or actuality, as appropriate and to the required specification whilst maintaining professional journalistic standards of accuracy, impartiality and fair dealing and adhering to the BBC’s Producers guidelines. To ensure the availability of required production facilities.

• Contribute to a moving story, amending and updating material as required. To be involved in thinking through and around editorial problems, developing realistic alternative strategies and approaches.

• Offer ideas for items, programmes and series. To suggest new angles on existing stories, means of moving the story on, and to put forward stories not yet covered. To understand the World Service Trust’s strategy and to suggest ideas appropriate to its distinctive style and content

.• Be in charge of keeping a record of drama storylines and themes

• Liaise closely with other team members and with contributors, reporters and stringers. Where necessary to liaise with humanitarian organisations for assistance with information gathering.

• Assist in the studio production of live and pre-recorded programmes. To respond to breaking stories whilst on air and to resolve technical difficulties.

• After appropriate training, to be able to use a range of audio & digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.

• May be required to work with or move to other programme teams on a multi-media basis and to have the ability to work across a range of skills and in a flexible manner, and to carry out these responsibilities in accordance with the BBC’s overall standards and values.

Key Requirements:-
A good first degree in Mass Communication,
other field of social sciences or the Humanities-
Submission of a 7-page sample drama script in English-
Good oral and written communication skills-
Good interpersonal and time management skills-
Fluency in Hausa language-
Deep understanding of the Northern culture-
Ability to conduct research into development issues-
Excellent creative instincts and the ability to originate new ideas-
Ability to write entertaining drama scripts-
Ability to work under pressure with little or no supervision and must be a self starter.-
Must be proficient in MS Office-
